A bright, ambitious high school student in a quiet Bavarian town wins a national essay contest and decides to enter another one on her hometown's history during the Third Reich—only to discover that the town's proud narrative of resistance was a carefully maintained lie. As she keeps digging over the following years, the community turns hostile, desperate to keep its buried past buried.
