In pre-famine 19th century Ireland, an introverted farm girl named Maura is awakened to a hidden world of magic and imagination after a chance encounter with Scarf Michael, a mysterious wandering fiddler whose music causes fear and hallucinations wherever it's heard. When her isolated rural community accuses her of witchcraft, she must turn to her own emerging supernatural powers to survive. Note: long considered a lost classic, this landmark of the Irish New Wave went largely unseen for four decades until a recent official restoration.
