After his father dies in a car crash on the Italian island of Ischia, a stuffy, self-important American businessman travels there to reclaim the body—only to discover his father died alongside his longtime mistress. As he waits through days of Italian bureaucracy and red tape to arrange the transport home, he's drawn into an unexpected romance with the mistress's daughter, coming to unwind and see life through fresh eyes along the way. Note: this was Billy Wilder's fifth and final collaboration with Jack Lemmon, and is widely regarded as one of the most underrated films in Wilder's celebrated filmography.
