Set in a poor neighborhood on the outskirts of Tehran, Life and a Day follows Somayeh, a young woman who has spent years holding her troubled family together. Her mother is emotionally fragile, her older brother Mohsen is struggling with drug addiction, and her other brothers are consumed by their own financial and personal problems. With the family already under severe pressure, Somayeh is preparing to marry a wealthy Afghan man, a decision that could fundamentally change her future.
As the wedding approaches, the family’s long-standing conflicts begin to surface. Mohsen’s disappearance and the consequences of his addiction create a crisis that threatens to destroy the fragile balance at home. Somayeh finds herself caught between her desire to escape her family’s problems and her deep sense of responsibility toward the people she cannot simply abandon.
Directed by Saeed Roustayi, Life and a Day is a tense and emotionally grounded portrait of poverty, addiction, family loyalty, and social inequality. Much of its power comes from the way the family’s arguments and everyday struggles gradually reveal the desperation beneath their ordinary lives, creating a portrait of people who love one another but are often incapable of saving one another.
